Libratus crushed the souls of the best HU NL players that the human race has ever produced. AlphaGo crushed the souls of the best Go players the human race has ever produced. Bots are crushing people at everything that people decide to turn their botting efforts toward. But what about bot vs bot violence? Stockfish was widely considered the absolute best Chess bot in the history of AI. It beat all comers, human or computer. Well, until now. It seems Google, has taken AlphaGo, the bot that crushed the souls of Go players, and created AlphaZero to play chess. But instead of crushing human souls, it went straight for the best of the best, and it absolutely destroyed Stockfish. How long did AlphaZero train in order to be so good? A long time, if you're a mayfly, but not much time if you're a human. It took AlphaZero 4 hours to learn chess. Granted, it spent those 4 hours with some ridiculously advanced learning hardware and software provided by Google, but still, it was just 4 fucking hours to learn chess. I don't know enough about Chess to understand the significance of the different playing styles. But Chess experts are proclaiming that the game has essentially been reinvented on a whole new level by AlphaZero. Chess, for all these centuries people have been trying to master it's intricate strategies, and apparently, we were very, very, wrong about how chess should be played at it's highest levels.
The most interesting part of the whole thing, imo, was that Stockfish "thought" it was winning for almost the entire game, by the time Stockfish even knew the game was closer than it had realized, the game was actually already over...

It makes me think that not too far in the future from now that humans will be pets of AI. More likely the AI will just just eliminate us as we will simply be nothing but a burden with our physical needs and a threat to AI's existence.

Alpha Zero literally started with only the rules of the game, then took 4 hours to play 44 million games against itself, to "learn" chess. It's hard to emphasize how good Stockfish is at chess, nothing and no one has been able to defeat this Chess AI, it's dominated everyone and every other AI for a few years now. It was thought to play nearly perfect chess. But Alpha Zero studied for 4 hours, and then demolished Stockfish. They played 100 games, each playing 50 from white, and 50 from black. From black Stockfish won zero games, managed a draw in 25 games and lost 25 games. From white Stockfish won zero games, managed to draw 47 games, and lost 3 games. So after being told the rules of chess, and having a 4 hour study session alone with itself, it went undefeated against the greatest chess engine ever designed by mankind, compiling a record of 28 wins, 0 losses with 72 draws.
But the importance of Alpha Zero isn't that it is great at learning to play games very quickly. The importance is Alpha Zero's ability to teach itself such complex things in such a short period of time. You can't really imagine how important such a thing is for the human race, unless you really step back and think about what Alpha Zero has it's sights set on now. It has began studying Protein Folding, where the hope is that Alpha Zero can conquer things like Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's and Cystic Fibrosis in much the same way it conquered chess and Stockfish.

Silly to think that they will need us for power.
Just wait until it can wire our brains to simple actuators. We will be able to replace travel with simply emailing back-ups of ourselves to other locations and downloading the data into a waiting machine.
There will be no death except for capital punishment - where courts will decide who gets "deleted".

I swear it's like you never even saw the movie.
